Bawden Pitch Care and Tree Surgery Group sponsor young sports star

Pitch maintenance company sponsors budding Salisbury school sports star

Bawden Group are sponsoring an up and coming sports star at Bishop Wordsworth’s School, Salisbury, as part of the school’s Ambassador for Sport programme.

The company has been maintaining Bishop Wordsworth’s grounds and sports pitches since 2005 and over that time has made big improvements to the playing surfaces on the soccer and rugby pitches in particular.

When approached by the school’s director of sport, Marcus Hole, to see if Bawden Group would provide financial support to one of their young sportsmen, Richard Bawden, the company’s MD, was only too pleased to help.

The lucky lad is 12 year old sports mad Monty George. Monty is a terrific all-rounder, representing his school in football, rugby, cross country and hockey. He also plays cricket for his village club and trains with the Salisbury LTA squad. If that isn’t enough he also finds time to ski, snowboard and swim.

It’s his success on the football pitch that Bawden Group will be helping him to build on. Monty has already played two seasons in goal for the AFC Bournemouth Centre of Excellence U12 and U13 teams and is currently on trial for Yeovil Town’s Centre of Excellence. Bawden Group staff will follow Monty’s progress with interest and expect to join his Mum and Dad, Cristina and Andrew, on the touchline whenever possible.

Monty’s aspirations on the sports field are part of a bigger plan: “The Bawden Group Bursary will help me achieve my goal of getting a football scholarship to Harvard where I hope to study after my A levels. I am really grateful for their support.”
